We've watched them with horror on the news - in churches, in schools, in restaurants. Active shooter incidents are often unpredictable and evolve quickly. In the midst of the chaos, anyone can play an integral role in mitigating the impacts of an active shooter incident. Now a free class being offered by the Clayton Police Department to help you prepare for and survive an active shooter incident.

The Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events (CRASE) course is designed and built on the Avoid, Deny, Defend (ADD) strategy developed by ALERRT, the Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training at Texas State University. It provides strategies, guidance, and a proven plan for surviving an active shooter event. Led by Clayton Police Officer, Neal Johnson, topics include the history and prevalence of active shooter events, civilian response options, medical issues, and considerations for conducting drills.
